Jean-Paul Harlan

Harlan Jean Paul When Jean-Paul Harlan finished his studies in IDHEC (High School of Cinematography), he started his career as photographer and director.

After several exhibitions, fashion stills and advertising campaigns, his passage to film direction came naturally with success. With his knowledge of photography and lighting he has an inborn sense of what is contemporary and a nautural hability to seek for authenticity and emotion.

His work shows a youth and «french touch» very aestetical that allows him to play with the elements and to create a unique and refined tone. Several foreign producers noticed his work. They enjoyed his French touch and they asked him to shoot advertisements in the USA, England, Italy, Germany, Spain, Japan, Russia, Eastern & European countries, Middle East and Asia. Personal Site

KarstenBorn in Germany to a struggling, hardworking mother and a perhaps Italian father, Karsten was exposed to visual arts, theatre, literature, music and acting while growing up in Europe. After moving to New York, escaping the German Bundeswehr, he pursued his goal to succeed in the entertainment industry by experimenting with films and stills cameras. Eventually Karsten moved to Los Angeles and satisfied his hunger for some involvement in the production business by taking a job as a P.A. on various commercials and music videos. After working in every possible position and department, he bought an old Arri2c and started putting a reel together. When he first worked with his mentor Brent Thomas he realised directing commercials was like coming home. After stints at Green Dot Films and Play he landed at Vamp Films for North America and Ferry Films for Germany. Karsten’s directing style is hard to pinpoint. In fact he “hates to be pigeon holed”. He is proud of the fact that he has a flexible style and his archive of work reflects this versatility. His knowledge and experience in all aspects of production give him respect for the process as whole and humility as a director. Karsten has shot for international stars in fashion and sports and rock & roll including Claudia Schiffer, Jessica Alba, Jan Ullrich and Verona Feldbusch. Some of his clients include Ford, Nintendo, Porsche, Suzuki.
